The House

The last time a big flood happened in Kerala, my grandfather was all of a year old. Then too, as in 2018 at the age of 95, he was carried out in a boat. But in that ‘100 year ago’ flood, I imagine the escape wasn't very desperate. Instead there is the calm of a sepia toned, ripple-less glide of a wooden boat out of the house. That time they lived in the old ancestral home, with nearly 90 odd members. I could never figure out in what manner everyone was related, for it was simply said, they all came from the same house.
